There has been a successful Patient Forum at Hetherington Group Practice (also run by us) since 2004. It has been meeting regularly aiming to meet up to 4 or 5 times a year and the group has assisted the practice in improving how we do things. Feedback from group members has been very useful for us in discussions for example on the delivery of services, our appointment systems, on the information we give to patients, feedback on patient surveys etc. The group at that stage did not want to elect a patient chair and were very happy to have the meetings run by the former Practice Manager, Judy Cook. Every meeting was also attended by a GP and a clinical topic was dicussed at the start of each meeting.
In May 2010 the Patient Forum was renamed as the Patient Participation Group (PPG) and met as a joint group with the Pavilion Medical Centre patients and staff.
In September 2011 the group held a well attended open meeting in order to recruit more members and it was decided to elect a chair from the patient members.
The patient members now meets on a bi-monthly basis on their own alternating with full meetings where the Practice Manager, Dorcas Smith attends along with Dr Steve Mowle who is the Patient Participation Lead.
New members are actively encourages to join
